Fall orders close October 31, 2026. Roots ship Monday to Wednesday.

KEEP THEM GOING.

Cut peonies last about 5 to 7 days in a vase. A few small habits get you to the long end of that.

WHEN THEY ARRIVE

  1. Fill a clean vase with cool water.
  2. Cut 2 to 3 cm off each stem at an angle.
  3. Strip any leaves that would sit below the water line.
  4. Put them somewhere out of direct sun and away from heat vents.

EVERY TWO DAYS

  1. Change the water.
  2. Trim the stems again.
  3. Pull out anything that has finished.

Keep the vase away from the fruit bowl. Ripening fruit gives off ethylene, which ages flowers faster.

THEY ARRIVED AS TIGHT BUDS

That is on purpose. We cut peonies when the bud feels like a marshmallow, so they open at your place instead of in our cooler. Most open within 1 to 3 days. Warm water and a warm room speed it up.

THERE’S AN ANT

Ants like the nectar on peony buds and do no harm. We rinse stems before delivery, but one may hitch a ride. Shake the flower outside or dip the head in cool water.
